SPRING TERM

Welcome back to the start of the new term (term 3).  A special welcome to all our new Nursery and Reception children.

I hope your Christmas and New Year celebrations were all that you wished for.

A belated thank you to Year 4, the orchestra and the recorders for a really lovely end of term service which completed our school celebrations.

NORMAL SERVICE WILL BE RESUMED.......

as soon as possible!

The cascade messaging system seems to be mostly working well so far, giving information about school opening. Since texts work best, please make sure your PTA class rep has your up to date mobile number.

The school website is updated by 7.00am each day – you may have to refresh your computer by clicking on ‘view’ then ‘refresh’.

The weather is forecast to remain similar for at least the early part of next week and so may impact on the outdoor after school clubs. Please check the board in the playground each morning.

PTA NEWS

I hope you all got your PTA Christmas newsletter. What a fantastic start to the year’s fundraising! Thank you so much to everyone who has worked so hard.

The next meeting is fixed for Wednesday 13th January at 7.15pm to finalise details for our Swishing event on 21st January. This will be a great evening for ladies only (sorry dads), details to follow.

The Quiz Night is set for Friday 26th March for those of you who want to start swotting now!!

RECYCLING

We are now able to raise funds from recycling ipods, digital cameras, sat navs and hand held game consoles as well as mobile phones and printer cartridges. Please pop them into the box outside the office.

NEW YEAR, NEW LOOK

We will very soon have news of the contractors and the start date for the refurbishment of the Key Stage 1 area, which may even be as early as next month. The governors will send details out to parents as soon as they have them.

SNOWY WEATHER

Our policy for snowy days is the same as for rainy days - the children are kept inside in order to avoid them having to sit in class later in damp/wet clothes/shoes. They will be taken out for short bursts of fresh air whenever possible. They are welcome to play with the snow after school, since they will then be able to go straight home for a hot drink, bath and dry clothes!

REMINDERS

Please ensure that you do not leave children unattended in the school playground before 8.40am as there is no staff supervision before this time. The breakfast club can take children from 8.00am.

All hats, scarves and gloves must be plain navy blue to comply with school uniform. If children wear boots to school, please make sure they have shoes to change into.

EMAIL ADDRESSES

The Parent group email addresses have just been updated again. Please let me know if you are not receiving information electronically or if you have changed your email address.

DINNER MONEY

Dinner Money is £8.00 per week, £48.00 for this term, £46.00 for next term (term 4) and £94.00 for both terms (up until Easter), all payable in advance.

AND FINALLY....

A great big welcome into the Macaulay family to Honor, a sister for Megan and D’nie a sister for Amari (both in Reception)

Best wishes

CLASS NEWS

Key Stage 2 children have been buzzing with excitement about the in-school trials for this year’s Quiz Club teams. We are hoping to send in two teams again this year. You may remember that last year one of our teams missed going to the regional final by a mere whisker!

This Monday all classes took part in Skip 2 B Fit workshops. The playground is now awash with skipping ropes as children try out new techniques. If you want to shed a few Christmas pounds you could ask them to pass on some tips!

Two groups of children from Years 5 and 6 have begun their cycle training course in spite of the recent poor weather.

Next week Year 4 are booked for a day of sport at the Oval, Year 6 an afternoon of Street Dance, Year 2 a yoga taster session and a group of Year 6 children will visit Imperial College for some hands-on science activities.

PTA NEWS

It’s here at last… our first ever swishing event takes place tonight! Come along for an evening of fun and fashion. Tickets are available for £5 on the door. Lots of freebies and great raffle prizes to be won. Sorry dads, this is a girls only event!

The next PTA meeting is on Monday 25th January at 7.15pm in the staffroom.

MACAULAY MUSIC

By now you should have received a letter about the fundraising musical evening to be held on February 3rd in the school hall. This event will showcase the musical talents of some of our children and staff and even some of our parents!

The choir will be performing on the evening and then again on Saturday 6th in the Clapham Choir Festival at St Peter’s Church.

Rehearsals are now underway for Year 2 and the choir to perform at the Royal Festival Hall in March – details to follow nearer the time.

Keep an eye out for posters around the school as we would love to have your support at any of these events.

Ace of Clubs is opening a new charity shop in Clapham. They are looking for volunteers to help run the shop and receive and sort donations. If you are interested in helping, please contact Sarah Miles (Noah Y6 and Eleni Y5). Donations of clothes, unwanted gifts and bric-a-brac will also be welcomed.
