Macaulay School Newsletter

5th November 2009

I think we can tell from the changeable weather that our Indian Summer is now well and truly over. Please ensure that all children are now in winter uniform (details in Welcome Back booklets) and that they bring a coat with them every day. Coats must be navy blue – we have some in stock. Boots may be worn to and from school, but shoes must be worn in school.

CLASS NEWS

The term is already off to a great start – KS2 had a road safety talk on Tuesday and Year 3 went to the cinema to see ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’ as the introduction to their new topic. On Monday Reception are visiting Clapham Library and on Thursday we begin a series of ‘Magic Lantern’ sessions where classes study famous paintings

PTA  NEWS

The Christmas cards designed by your children have been delivered and will be sent home in the next day or two. Please look in bags and backpacks!

Have you booked your babysitters and polished your bling for the ‘Lights, Camera, Action’ night on Saturday 21st November? There are still some tickets available – please see your class rep or ask in the school office.

If you missed the Usbourne Book Sale this week I have some spare leaflets for late orders.

The PTA are re-launching the Able & Cole fruit and veg scheme from this Friday – see the flier on the reverse of this newsletter.

SCHOOL COUNCIL

The first proposal to be taken up from this year’s councillors is that only one paper copy of the newsletter is sent home to each family. Please check your youngest child’s PACT folder for your copy.

Two councillors have taken up responsibility for working with us on the school travel plan. They collect monthly data from classes on those who walk to school, apply for the badges and are off to Lambeth Town Hall soon as our Junior Road Safety Officers.

PHOTOS

The school photographer will be coming in on Tuesday 17th November to take individual and family group photos. Proofs will be sent home the same day for your orders to be returned by Monday 23rd November. This means the photos should be delivered to school on or around 1st December just in time for sending your Christmas cards!

GOVERNOR

Because so few parents managed to attend the meeting on 15th October the governors have produced a report which includes the questions from parents and the governors’ answers. This will be given to you by class teachers at the Parent Conferences next week.

Raising funds for our school the healthy way!

We can raise over £3000 per year for our school without it costing you an extra penny!

All you need to do is buy some organic fruit and veg from the school, instead of the supermarket, it’s that simple!

It doesn’t cost more, but when you do, 25% of the money will go straight to our school!

If 15 more parents join, we will raise at least an extra £700 per year.
